NOTICE: Error on ACLS Instructor CD: Megacode Testing Checklists 4, 7 & 10
On the Instructor CD included with the ACLS Instructor Manual, “recognize symptoms due to gunshot wound” is listed erroneously on Megacode Testing Scenarios 4, 7 and 10. Please disregard this reference and please use only the version of these Testing Checklists that is included in the printed Instructor Manual. The Instructor CD will be corrected in future printings.
ACLS Product & Course Orientation Now Available
The ACLS P&CO is available on the ACLS Course page on the AHA Instructor Network. The AHA developed the ACLS P&CO to help instructors understand new 2015 Guidelines course design and teaching strategies, and to quickly get up to speed on the latest and most important updates to course materials. It includes guidance for Instructors teaching both Instructor-led and blended courses.
All ACLS Instructors are strongly encouraged to view the ACLS P&CO before teaching the new ACLS course; however, viewing is not required. Viewing the P&CO will be most helpful to Instructors if they have new course materials in-hand.
The Heartsaver Product & Course Orientation is available on the Heartsaver Course page on the AHA Instructor Network. The AHA developed the Heartsaver P&CO to help Instructors understand new 2015 Guidelines courses design and teaching strategies, and to quickly get up to speed on the latest and most important updates to course materials. AHA strongly encourages Heartsaver Instructors to view before teaching the new Heartsaver First Aid and CPR AED Courses; however, viewing is not required.
REMINDER: Blended Learning – 60 Day Period to Complete Hands-on Session
While the AHA no longer requires providers to complete hands-on sessions within 60 days of online course completion, it is highly recommended that the hands-on session be completed soon after completion of the online portion. As always, it is up to the discretion of the Instructor, following the TC policies, to determine if students will be able to successfully meet course criteria resulting in a course completion card.
The Blended Learning components of new Instructor materials are structured to support cognitive learning from the online course that help translate into the physical skills needed for successful course completion.
As of April 2016

MANDATORY 2015 AHA Guidelines & Updates for CPR & ECC
Begin Date: December 15, 2015
End Date: February 15, 2016
The 2015 American Heart Association Instructor Update will launch online December 15, 2015, and you must have completed it by February 15, 2016, or no longer be able to teach AHA courses.
The 2015 AHA Update will be delivered electronically through the AHA Instructor Network
You will need to log in to the network, and can find the update(s) either under the “dashboard” or by clicking the link on the log in page; if you cannot remember your log in information, click the “Forgot password” link
You will need to complete a separate session for each discipline you currently teach. You are encouraged to complete the Heartsaver instructor update if you teach Heartsaver courses, but if you complete the BLS update, you are not mandated to do Heartsaver also. The same is true for PALS/PEARS.
Each discipline update takes approximately one hour, but you can log in and out in the middle of a particular course and not be penalized.
Upon completion, you will be able to save/print a certificate of completion that must be submitted to SR-AHEC Training Center on or before February 15, 2016. If you submit a certificate after the deadline, the certificate must be dated between December 15, 2015 and February 15, 2016.
If you DO NOT complete the update by February 15, 2016, you can no longer teach.
The update will be available for tablets with screen sizes 7 inches or larger, but not for phones.
Interim materials will be introduced during the update and can be downloaded.
CE/CME is available through the AHA for each discipline update completed.
If you attended either face-to-face update sponsored by the AHA (Orlando or San Diego), you will not be required to repeat the update online.
Completing the update does not replace regular renewal criteria (teach 4 classes per 2 years, be monitored by TCF per 2 years, and pay TC membership dues annually).
2015 AHA Instructor Update & Your Instructor Status
You have from December 15, 2015 until February 15, 2016 to complete the instructor update(s); there is no grace period or extension allowed. Failure to complete the update(s) by the deadline may result in termination of your instructor status and membership with Southern Regional AHEC.
2015 Interim Training Materials
All Interim Training Materials are to be used as soon as you complete the official Instructor Update on the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. You may use Interim Training Materials only after you have completed the Instructor Update on 2015 science. Interim Training Materials are not to be used after the new training materials reflecting the new science are released throughout 2016.
